Mixed Feelings about Facebook
Monday, October 2nd, 2006When facebook first introduced feeds and “mini-feeds”. I—-Like so many people—–was very disappointed by how in-your-face-reporting-stuff-you-don’t-care-about it was. However, when Mark Zuckerberg wrote a personal letter of apology that outlined what was being done to make sure that feeds would be altered to serve his community better, I gained a lot of respect for the guy.
On the other hand, Facebook recently opened the gates to the public (as apposed to schools and select companies). Zuckerberg promised that there would be no problems, and no additional ads. To be fair, I haven’t seen MORE ads on Facebook, but it loads noticably slower now, and I’ll be damned if my browser isn’t always waiting on servedby.advertising.com while I wait. Now, there’s even talk that Yahoo! wants to buy Facebook. This would be especially disappointing. Facebook’s main attraction was close, personal feeling community site. Don’t sell out, Mark, and get faster/more servers. I want to keep loving facebook, but facebook has to keep loving me.
